Future of Health Care Documentary To Air On Web MD Television
Astronaut Buzz Aldrin Co-Hosts Program
By Louis Sportelli, D.C.

What will health care be like in the coming year? And what can the consumer expect in terms of treatment and service from their health practitioners? Will health scientists find ways to appreciably extend life? Will it be improved? Will painful disabilities be reduced and will performance be improved? And where do all the health disciplines and specialties fit into the picture? What is on the horizon in terms of health?

That is the subject of New Horizons In Health, which is set to be telecast nationally during the week of October 2, 2000, as part of the on-going series, The Cutting Edge Medical Report. Based on the trends of society and the breakthroughs in science, it will give dramatic picture of what can be expected in the coming years. The program will be aired on the Web MD Television (formerly FOX Cable Health Network) on the following dates:

October 2, 4 & 6 9:30 p.m. (EST)
October 3, 5 & 9 12:30 a.m. (EST)
October 7 & 8 12:30 a.m. (EST) & 9:30 p.m. (EST)
New Horizons in Health is co-hosted by former Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who along with Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. This program is a 30-minute TV documentary which gives a new perspective on the future of health care.

This program was produced by the Information Television Network (ITV) as part of its ongoing series, The Cutting Edge Medical Report. It was written and directed by Emmy Award Winner Irvin Davis and is being underwritten by a grant from TRIAD Healthcare, Inc. as a professional service.

The program deals with advances in science. It draws a correlation between the breakthroughs which have occurred in the space program and the progress that can be made in the health care as a result of teamwork. It points out that through cooperation there are unlimited horizons. It is an informative show that discusses the trend toward complementary and alternative methods of health care.

The program was produced with input from NASA scientists. Major scenes were taped at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. The show traces some of the history-making flights in space and the spin-offs which have occurred in science that will lead to a higher quality of life in the new millennium. Along with advanced health-care methods has come a new attitude toward health. This includes a willingness on the part of individuals to take more responsibility for their own health, a greater emphasis on prevention more treatment options, more interest in utilizing drugless and non-invasive procedures, and greater cooperation and team effort between all the science and health disciplines for the benefit of the patient.

Space, life science and health authorities from the Johnson Space Center (NASA) are interviewed along with physicians representing the various complementary and alternative health professions, who offer their prediction of the future of the future. Among the statements made by leading physicians are:

"We are seeing the consumer demanding and more. We are also reconsidering what we have been doing in conventional medicine."

John Weeks
Editor/Publisher - The Integrator

"What is evolving ... is the recognition that there are other pieces. Pieces to the puzzle of health care delivery that don't necessitate an MD degree."

Ralph Rashbaum, MD
Medical Director
Texas Back Institute

"When doctors from different disciplines cooperate ... each of them brings a different skill set."

John Triano, D.C. PhD
Texas Back Institute

"... Today we are moving to treating the whole patient where a drug is part of the answer. It's not the total answer."

Ronald E. Partain, Sr. RPh.PD
Pharmacist

"I would like to see a medical doctor, a naturopathic doctor, a chiropractic physician, maybe a skilled RN nurse all sit down together with the patient."

Nancy Aagenes, ND
President
American Association of Naturopathic Physicians

"As a family physician, I know we need a large repertoire of options to provide optimal care."

Wayne B. Jonas, MD
Uniformed Services University
Former Director, Office of Alternative Medicine National Institutes of Health

In reviewing the program, Dr. Marino R. Passero, chief operating officer of TRIAD Healthcare, Inc. a national PPO headquartered in Plainville, Connecticut said, "This probably is the finest piece ever produced in terms of building consumer confidence and understanding for chiropractic, making unreliable claims, or putting down other accepted professions, this documentary presents a perspective that shows chiropractic as part of the mainstream. It is intelligent; it is factual; it is highly professional; it is gentle; it is believable; it is motivating; and, it is interesting from beginning to end."

Copies of the documentary will be available for purchase at $19.95 plus $5 shipping and handling. To order, call 1-888-270-2850.
